1Can I replace my UPS batteries with a different brand of batteries?
If you have to replace one or two batteries in the string, we recommend that you use the same brand of batteries because they will have the same characteristics. If you need to replace the whole string, then you can change the brand of batteries.
2Is inverter better than UPS for a household?
Both are power backup solutions terms. For a normal household, the inverter is a better option as it is economical and works offline. UPS provides power backup to the appliances without delay and fluctuation.
3What is the difference between online (UPS) and offline (inverter/UPS)?
When the electricity fails, if you have an offline UPS, it takes a few seconds to switch from the main AC power supply to DC (UPS). A good offline UPS is said to work better if it’s capable of doing the switch in lesser time; whereas in the case of online UPS, as the devices are connected directly to the UPS, even when the power fails, electronic devices will continue to operate seamlessly.
4Why do batteries fail?
Batteries can fail for a whole host of reasons, but common reasons include high or uneven temperatures, inaccurate float charge voltage, loose inter-cell links or connections, loss of electrolyte due to drying out or damaged case, lack of maintenance or with time.
5If UPS batteries have been in storage for over a year, will the batteries be still good to work?
Due to the self-discharge characteristics of lead-acid batteries, it is essential that they are charged periodically during storage. If batteries sit unused, with no charging routine, the battery life decreases and in many cases permanent loss of capacity occur. To prolong shelf life without charging, never store batteries in very hot spots.
6What is the average lifespan of UPS batteries?
The standard lifespan for VRLA batteries is three to five years. However, environmental conditions, the number and depth of discharge cycles and improper maintenance can reduce battery life.
7Are Sealed Maintenance Free batteries (SMF) maintenance-free?
Sealed batteries are referred to as maintenance-free as they do not require frequent filling of fluid. Preventive maintenance is the key to maximizing your UPS battery service life.
8If I add more batteries to a inverter can I add more load?
The battery helps the inverter to store the energy and during the power outages converts the stored AC into DC and provides power to the inverter. Adding more batteries to a UPS can only increase the battery runtime to support the load. So, first, you have to buy an inverter or UPS of adequate size for your load, and then add batteries to fit your runtime needs.
9How is battery runtime affected if I reduce the load on the inverter/UPS?
As a rule of thumb, if you reduce the load by half, you triple the runtime of batteries. If your area has frequent power failures, the lesser devices you work during the power failure, more time you will have the inverter/UPS providing you power.
